The Faculty of Psychology at Tarumanagara University (UNTAR) once again held a gathering to foster camaraderie and express gratitude, featuring Dr. Agoes Dariyo, M.Psi., Psychologist, as the guest speaker. Held in the Multipurpose Room of the UNTAR Faculty of Psychology on Wednesday (7/29), from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. WIB, this event served as a forum for sharing inspiration and reflecting on the meaning of perseverance in carrying out the Tri Dharma of Higher Education—specifically in the areas of education, research, and community service.
In his presentation, Dr. Agoes emphasized the importance of perseverance as an academic. According to him, research is the “very lifeblood” of a researcher. Therefore, every lecturer and academic must continually equip themselves with knowledge, experience, and a passion for learning in order to produce work that contributes to the advancement of science.
He also reminded us that an educator’s integrity is reflected in the alignment between words and actions. “What we teach is what we do. Likewise, what we do is what we teach.” This message serves as a reminder that an academic does not merely impart knowledge but also sets an example through their work and daily conduct.
In addition to research, Dr. Agoes emphasized that Community Service (PKM)* is also an integral part of an academic’s life. PKM serves as a means to share knowledge, experience, and values with the community. Through this spirit, every academic is encouraged to continue embracing and appreciating their profession by making tangible contributions to their surrounding community.
During the discussion session, the Dean of the Faculty of Psychology at UNTAR, Dr. P. Tommy Y. Suyasa, M.Si., Psychologist, emphasized that carrying out the Tri Dharma requires three key traits: resilience, persistence, and creativity. According to him, success is not achieved instantly but through the courage to keep trying, to bounce back from failure, and to bring creativity to various aspects of life. In fact, creativity can be expressed through simple things, including singing, as a form of self-expression and self-development.
This event felt even more special because it coincided with preparations for the renovation of the second floor of Building K and a celebration marking the opening of the new faculty office space. The sense of togetherness further strengthened the spirit of collaboration within the UNTAR Faculty of Psychology.
Strengthening the Spirit of the Tri Dharma Through Brown Bag Seminars
On the same occasion, Urip Purwono, Ph.D., also shared his experience with the “Brown Bag Seminar” tradition, which he encountered while studying in Massachusetts, United States. He explained that these sessions took place during lunchtime, where each participant brought or purchased their own lunch (a “brown bag lunch”), then gathered to listen to a presentation by a guest speaker, engage in discussion, and exchange ideas. Although it lasted only about an hour, the forum always provided new insights that enriched the participants’ perspectives. This tradition evoked a sense of nostalgia and served as an inspiration when it was held in a similar format at the UNTAR Faculty of Psychology.
The event was attended by the leadership, faculty members, and support staff of the UNTAR Faculty of Psychology, namely Dr. P. Tommy Y. Suyasa, M.Si., Psychologist; Dr. Naomi Soetikno, M.Pd., Psychologist; and Roswiyani, Ph.D. Psychologist, Dr. Yohanes Budiarto, M.Si., Dr. Ninawati, M.M., Dr. Rita Markus Idulfilastri, M.Psi.T., Rahmah Hastuti, M.Psi., Psychologist, Monika, M.Psi., Psychologist, Denrich Suryadi, M.Psi., Psychologist, Niken Widiastuti, M.Si., Psychologist, Meike Kurniawati, S.Psi., M.M., Agustina, M.Psi., Psychologist, Bonar Hutapea, M.Psi., Abdillah Nur Zein, M.Psi, as well as educational staff members Dyah Puji Rahayu, S.E., Dadang Rumardi, Jane Margaretha, S.Psi., Royani, Sonia, S.Psi., Virgie Nathania, S.Psi., Putri Rahma, Philomena E.
